Contrary to his name, Anonymous stands out from the M.C.'s of today and the M.C.'s on the up and coming. With an infectious sounds for any music listener, dynamic wordplay, and mic skills for the true hip hop fans, his unparalleled versatility makes him fit any topic he approaches. This M.C. seems to grab the attention of every ear that comes in contact with his sound.
Born in North Carolina as Nathan Banks, Anonymous started writing lyrics at the uncorrupted age of 9, but at 17 years old, he decided that hip hop is what he was going to do for the rest of his life and he hasn't looked back since. He spent everday over the next year sharpening his skills.
At age 18, he decided to show the world what he had to offer and entered the 2000 Source Unsigned Hype Tour. Although he wasn't awarded the prize, he went home with an even bigger prize, the respect and applause from the crowd and fellow M.C.'s.
So in December of 2000, he decided it was time for the next step towards his dream, a career in the music world. Without knowing a soul in the metropolis known as New York City, sold his car and moved to Brooklyn. He immediately enrolled in IAR, the Institute of Audio Research.
While at IAR, Anonymous met someone who would later become his partner in music, Kyle "Mynce" Wendland. Kyle, much like Anonymous, was pursuing his career in the music world, but as a DJ and producer. Together, they compiled cd's and tapes showcasing their musical talents and new found sound.
Passing them around the streets of Jersey City and Brooklyn for feedback, they received overwhelming approval. One day while passing out music, things started to look up as Anonymous recognized a local production team logo on the back of a guy's jacket. Not passing up this is chance of lifetime, he started rapping at the top of his lungs from across New York's congested streets catching the attention of everyone on the block, including the person for whom it was intended in the first place. The person was James "Faiz" Williams an establish M.C. from the old school. Digging this Anonymous style, Faiz decided to take him under his wing and took him to 78/88 studios where he and his partners were working on some compilation materials. While at the studio, he would let his lyrical skills loose every chance he got, catching the ears of Masta Ace and Domingo, who produced the Game Over compilation. After a few sessions his name was known throughout the studio.
However, as things started to look up, financial reasons forced him to move back to North Carolina. His intense determination did not allow for the progression of his dreams to be halted. Anonymous took what he had learned so far, and with the help of Mynce, decided to self produce an album to call their own, "The Fallout Shelter." |
